The Los Angeles Rams announced that they have signed linebacker Dakota Allen to their practice squad. Allen was selected by the Rams in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft but he wound up being waived at the end of training camp and then added to the practice squad.
Luckily for him, the Oakland Raiders came calling a few weeks ago and offered him a spot on their active roster though so his time in Los Angeles didn’t last long. Oakland eventually cut him though, which is why he is back where it all started with the Rams.
Allen rose to fame after becoming the breakout star of the Netflix series “Last Chance U”. The show followed players of East Mississippi Community College, many of which were attending after being let go by their former programs. Allen was dismissed from Texas Tech and found himself becoming the marquee personality on “Last Chance U.”
The linebacker only spent one year at EMCC before transferring back to Texas Tech. He continued to excel, making the second and then first-team All Big-12 in consecutive years. Allen had 31 solo tackles in his senior season as well as two forced fumbles, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
“Last Chance U” started in 2015 and featured Allen in 2016. Allen was the first player from the show to be drafted by an NFL team. Ronald Ollie was featured in the first season and was invited to the Raiders training camp this season as well but eventually got cut.
The Rams were obviously high enough on Allen to draft him, so it does not come as a surprise that he is back in the organization now after being released by Oakland.
