Rams Place Larger Emphasis On Nutrition After Hiring Sebastian Zorn

The Los Angeles Rams have been enjoying a much-deserved break from football the past month or so, but the team will be gearing up for training camp which is set to take place in a couple of weeks.

Los Angeles is coming off a strong bounce-back year where they made the postseason and after an offseason addressing needs on both sides of the football, will be looking to get back in the championship contender conversation.

The Rams organization has typically gone about building its program the right way in terms of scheme, player development and free agency signings, but there are always ways to improve and ensure players are getting the resources they need to be better on the field.

For example, one area of improvement was the team’s dietary options and habits and the team hired Sebastian Zorn in April to help the organization in this regard after poor reviews in the annual player surveys, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN:

When the NFLPA survey results were released in February, the Rams received a C-plus in the nutritionist category, with a score that ranked 26th among the 32 teams. They hired Zorn in April.

“I didn’t realize how much better it could have been until he ended up getting here,” Rams coach Sean McVay said.

Zorn breifly explained how he went about retooling Los Angeles’ food program and why it would benefit the players:

“It starts with the food,” Zorn said. “So improving the food service first is really important because if the food is not good, I can recommend this and that, but if they’re not going to eat it at the end of the day, then I’ve lost them and they’re going to go outside. So improving that was kind of square one.”

Nutrition can be an afterthought for some players, especially if they’re on the younger side who can more easily burn off any fats or extra calories. However, over time it adds up and can affect performance so it’s good that the Rams listened to their players and brought in someone like Zorn to oversee the nutrition program.

Rams’ Braden Fiske to work out with Aaron Donald

Los Angeles will be counting on members of its 2024 NFL Draft class to help get them to the next level, with Braden Fiske expected to play a key role from day 1. Fiske is the presumed replacement for Aaron Donald on the Rams defensive line and the two will actually work out together ahead of training camp.
