The Philadelphia Eagles managed to secure a lucrative long-term extension with quarterback Carson Wentz and now the spotlight continues to shine brighter on the Los Angeles Rams’ situation with quarterback Jared Goff.

Both quarterbacks were the first and second overall picks, with the Rams trading up to take Goff at No. 1, in the 2016 NFL Draft and had been entering the fourth year of their initial rookie deals. The Eagles have since agreed to terms on a four-year, $128 million extension with Wentz that will keep him on the team through 2024.

This has resulted in further speculation regarding when the Rams plan to hash out their new deal with Goff. Despite all that has transpired, Rams COO Kevin Demoff does not seem to be in a rush to get things done.

According to ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry, Demoff does not think Wentz’s deal should put the Rams in a hurry to Goff’s new contract out of the way although he does view it as a priority:

It appears that Wentz’s deal likely will not hasten the negotiation process in Los Angeles. Regardless, there is no denying that it will have an impact on Goff’s future extension one way or another.

His representation has gotten a much more vivid number in mind now that the benchmark has been set with both Wentz and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson coming to terms on new deals this offseason.

While the recent events have brought the looming negotiations to the forefront, Demoff’s comments indicate that the front office is no rush, especially after picking up Goff’s fifth-year option earlier this offseason.

There is no question that the 24-year-old is certainly deserving of a lucrative extension after establishing himself as one of the most promising, young quarterbacks in the league. Although there may have been some doubt about his future as the franchise cornerstone in Los Angeles early on, he has managed to prove more than capable of leading this high-powered offense after two consecutive Pro Bowls and a trip to Super Bowl 53.

Despite all his promise, the Rams know full well they will need to shore up as strong of a supporting cast as possible in order for them to sustain the tremendous level of success they have enjoyed in recent years. The front office has been busy securing some serious talent on both sides of the ball, however, it is only a matter of time before they must address Goff’s contract.
