The Los Angeles Rams look poised to get back to being one of the NFL’s most exciting and explosive offenses after their successful offseason.
The Rams added several weapons in DeSean Jackson and Tutu Atwell to stretch the field for new quarterback Matthew Stafford, thus opening up the playbook for head coach Sean McVay. Aside from the new faces, Los Angeles is also expecting contributions to the players who were already on the roster.
Van Jefferson is one name to look out for as he has reportedly been having a strong offseason. Jefferson admitted his rookie season was an adjustment but expressed he is feeling more comfortable within the flow of the offense this time around, per Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“If I had to be honest, last year, I was a rookie coming in, I was kind of in my head spinning,” Rams wide receiver Van Jefferson said during a video conference Wednesday. “But I think I’m more comfortable. Last year was a lot of learning steps, a lot of things I needed to learn about the offense.”
McVay praised Jefferson and acknowledged he is expecting big things from him during the 2021 season:
“I’ve been very, very pleased with Van Jefferson,” McVay said. “Very excited about what he’s going to do to finish up this offseason, and I know he’s going to come back and hit the ground running in training camp. But we’re expecting very big things from Van Jefferson. He has been a major bright spot this offseason, and somebody that I’m extremely excited about. And I know I share that feeling with the rest of the coaches.”
Jefferson flashed at times during his rookie season but was ultimately buried on the depth chart behind Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds. This time around he is expected to have a bigger role and should be able to capitalize on his opportunities.
The Rams should be much improved on offense this season and it will be interesting to see how much Jefferson plays a part in that.
