The Los Angeles Ram suffered a disappointing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14. Among the notable mistakes that were made, cornerback Trumaine Johnson’s taunting penalty ultimately proved to be the deciding factor.
The Eagles went on to score a touchdown and the Rams nos find themselves preparing for their most crucial game of the 2017 NFL season. Johnson has since expressed plenty of remorse for his actions and even said he wishes he could take it back, according to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times:
“It was a selfish act, especially on that crucial drive,” he said. “What I take from it: Celebrate my teammates. It’s not just all about me. If I could take it back, I’d take it back.”
The taunting penalty did not only cost the Rams the game, it also cost Johnson a $9,115 fine from the NFL. Needless to say, it was not a good Sunday for the veteran corner.
Fortunately, he will have a chance to redeem himself versus the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Los Angeles will be without starting cornerback Kayvon Webster for the year, meaning Johnson will once again have to lead this group down the final stretch. Although his future with the Rams is uncertain, there is no doubt that he is still their No. 1 corner.
