After starting the season on a horrible note, the Los Angeles Rams have rebounded quickly and find themselves atop their division. After a statement victory against the Arizona Cardinals on the road, head coach Jeff Fisher has his team on a three-game winning streak.
While the offense put up strong numbers, the defense once again proved to be the anchor of this franchise. The defense collected three sacks, three interceptions and two forced fumbles against the high-powered offense of the Cardinals.
Trumaine Johnson, who got one of the three interceptions, had a fantastic game. The 6’1″, 205 lbs. cornerback presented quite the challenge for the lengthy receivers of the Cardinals. His ability to manage one-on-one coverage allowed the other defensive backs to focus on the stellar receiving core.
The 26-year-old participated in a postgame interview with NFL Network’s Deion Sanders, where he joked about wanting more and stated what truly matters:
“I should have had three, but most importantly we got the W and that’s all that matters.”
Johnson jokingly alluded to two other balls that he could have intercepted, one that he caught, but landed out of bounds with.
The Rams allowed a total of 325 passing yards and 118 rushing yards, but allowed only 13 points. The Cardinals only lead during the game was after a field goal put them up 13-10 in the third quarter.
The Cardinals would go on to not score again, especially once quarterback Carson Palmer left with concussion like symptoms. Johnson stated that the focus of the defense coming into the game was forcing turnovers.
The Rams find themselves at 3-1, for the first time in a decade. With a partial lead in the NFC West, the team has exceeded all expectations at the beginning of the season.
Johnson once again chipped on the Rams and the expectations they have had throughout the season:
“The sky is the limit with us. We haven’t been 3-1 since what, 2006? We come into these games expecting to win.”
The Rams enter a Week 5 matchup at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum against the Buffalo Bills.
