Following their 35-30 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4, the Los Angeles Rams once again find themselves 3-1 to start the 2017 NFL season. It is familiar territory for the Rams after getting off to a 3-1 start to begin their tumultuous 2016 NFL season.
Although the team has shown tremendous improvement since then, Rams players still haven’t gotten the taste of last season out of their mouths. Despite their stellar 3-1 start, cornerback Trumaine Johnson says Los Angeles needs to ‘be humble’, according to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez:
“We’re 3-1, but I remember that feeling when we were 3-1 last year and we won one game of the 12 after that,” Johnson said. “Be humble.”
It is difficult to be humble, especially when the Rams were heavy underdogs going into their game versus the Cowboys. However, Johnson’s comments are indicative of the expectations this team has for itself this season.
There is certainly reason to have such expectations this time around as opposed to last year. Los Angeles now has the highest-scoring offense in the league to go with a top-tier special teams group. The only hindrance so far this year has been the shaky play of the Rams defense. If Los Angeles can continue to progress on both sides of the ball, they may be able to do much more than just avoid another 1-11 catastrophe.
