NFL players have not been able to get out much amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has caused most of the world to come to a screeching halt.
Fortunately, they still have the means to maintain a healthy lifestyle at home while in quarantine with their families. Regardless, the Easter spirit was enough to spur Los Angeles Rams cornerback Troy Hill into taking further action.
Hill recently partnered up with Legacy Philanthropy to give baskets to HomeLight Family Living and Peace4Kids. Each one contained cleaning supplies, grocery gift cards, and even an iPad to help the kids keep up with school.
Hill spoke on the opportunity to be able to provide relief for less fortunate families, via the team’s official website:
“We wanted to do something during these times, and it was good to bring joy to kids that don’t have access to the things my family and I might have access to. I wanted to be a big help,” said Hill.
Legacy Philanthropy founder Laila Souktani is confident that they were able to address some critical needs:
“Aside from wanting to spread positivity and happiness within our community, we learned that there were very important needs that we had the opportunity to meet,” said Souktani “The families at HomeLight were in need of food, cleaning supplies and other basic items. At Peace4Kids, there were 11 kids who didn’t have access to their online classes. We were able to help provide a safer environment and access to education, which are both things that are important to Troy and I.”
The HomeLight Family Living is a program that helps provide families with housing through The Midnight Mission’s approach in homeless services. Peace4Kids is a non-profit organization that supports foster youth in the South Los Angeles area.
It is encouraging to see that Hill is making extra efforts to make an impact in the community. These are difficult times for many families that have been severely affected by the ongoing pandemic and such relief certainly goes a long way. He even made sure to add his own personal touch by including a letter from himself.
Hill is entering the second year of a two-year extension he signed with the Rams last offseason. He will have a chance to maintain his starting job heading into the 2020 NFL season and could potentially earn himself a more long-term deal with his efforts both on and off the field.
