In a surprising move, the Los Angeles Rams opted to keep the offensive line intact despite some notable losses during the offseason. Their decision to stay put is indicative of the confidence they have in the current personnel led by left tackle Andrew Whitworth.

Whitworth has served as the anchor of this group since head coach Sean McVay took over in 2017. He addressed the speculation about his playing future by signing a three-year deal last year.

Having Whitworth around helps serve as a stabilizing factor for some of the new faces taking on increased roles up front. Fellow offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum is making sure to take full advantage.

Anchrum shared some heavy praise Whitworth and the longevity he has displayed through his stellar career, via Sarina Morales of the team’s official website:

“It’s been really good learning the ins and outs of how he’s approached the game and how that approach has changed over the years. The offensive line has changed a lot in the last 20 years. Football has changed a lot. As far as offensive line and how we do our business has changed a lot and to see how he’s grown and developed as a player and [how] his knowledge has grown…it’s been pretty, pretty special.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to Anchrum’s comments regarding the changing nature of the offensive line. Regardless, it is evident that Whitworth’s approach has helped him defy the effects of Father Time up to this point.

The 39-year-old had been in the midst of one of his best seasons yet during the 2020 campaign until he was sidelined by a significant knee injury. However, he still managed to make some tremendous strides in his recovery to return just in time for the playoffs.

Whitworth now admits that the hunger he still had to make a comeback last year was all the proof he needed to return for another season. It is clear that his work ethic and desire to play have rubbed off on the younger players on the roster.

Although the Rams have a good idea of how they will go about filling the voids on the interior of this offensive line, nothing appears to be set in stone at the moment. Anchrum will be among those looking to take advantage of the vacancies by potentially etching out an increased role for himself this offseason.
