Former St. Louis Rams greats Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce have been named finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The duo that made up the receiving corps of the “Greatest Show on Turf” are among the final 15 modern-era players eligible for the 2020 Hall of Fame induction process.
Holt and Bruce were led to glory in Super Bowl XXXIV by Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner. Now the pair of receivers is being considered for the legendary honor in their own right.
To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, a player must have played at least five seasons. Of course, most Hall of Fame inductees have done that and much more.
For Holt, he had 11 solid seasons in the NFL, 10 of which he spent with the Rams. He holds the NFL record of having six consecutive seasons with at least 1,300 receiving yards. He finished his career with a total 13,382 receiving yards, which is 16th-most in NFL history.
Bruce was no slouch himself, of course, as he finished his career with 15,208 receiving yards, fifth-most in NFL history. Despite finishing with a higher career total, he often was a second option behind Holt, which helped to make the Rams so deadly in the early 2000s. Bruce spent 14 years with the Rams before heading to the San Francisco 49ers for his final two seasons.
While their resumes certainly stack up, who knows if this will be the year they get in. This is Burce’s fourth time being named a finalist while it is Holt’s first.
Of course, there are plenty of other legendary players who are eligible for the only five spots of players who will actually be inducted this year. Amongst their competition is great players such as Troy Polamalu and Reggie Wayne. Although Holt and Bruce certainly have their own right to get in, it will not be easy.
