Although concerning reports have surfaced about the state of Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley’s knee, it appears he is still hesitant to give an update on his health.
Gurley missed the final two games of the 2018 NFL season with a knee injury before being relegated to a timeshare with C.J. Anderson throughout the playoffs. As a result, there was plenty of speculation regarding his health moving forward.
Rumors have now started to surface about the injury being a degenerative issue or even arthritis. Despite all the reports, it seems Gurley is not ready to reveal his diagnosis.
According to ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry, he is just taking things one day at a time:
Gurley said at the start of voluntary offseason workouts two weeks ago that he was “feeling good” and was “taking it day by day” as he prepared for the upcoming season. But when asked if he could confirm reports that he was suffering from a degenerative condition or arthritis, Gurley offered no label at all. “All I can focus on is how I’m doing right now,” he said.
While the Rams have been rather vague when discussing Gurley’s injury, their actions say loud and clear just how concerning it may be.
The team would love nothing more than for the three-time Pro Bowler to remain as the focal point of the offense after making him high the highest-paid running back in the league last offseason but all signs point to him taking on a lighter workload moving forward.
Los Angeles signed Malcolm Brown to a two-year extension this offseason to remain as Gurley’s backup. The front office also used their second pick in the 2019 NFL Draft to take the talented Darrell Henderson in the third round.
