Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley enjoyed quite the resurgence throughout the 2017 NFL season. As a result, he has been the recipient of some major hardware lately.

However, Gurley has now received his most prestigious award yet. The NFL announced on their official Twitter that he has been named this year’s Offensive Player of the Year:

Gurley won the award by a landslide after receiving 37 of the first-place votes while joining Rams’ legends Marshall Faulk and Eric Dickerson as the only players to do so in franchise history. He was the most dynamic back in football having led the league in both touchdowns and yards from scrimmage. That said, he was considered a favorite alongside New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady for the MVP award. Unfortunately, he will have to settle for OPOY for now.

Regardless, it has been quite the turnaround for the third-year back.Gurley endured a nightmare sophomore slump in 2016. However, the hiring of head coach Sean McVay has helped maximize Gurley’s versatile skill set.

He had even set a high bar for himself prior to the season which seemed a bit lofty at the time. Needless to say, Gurley and the Rams’ offense far exceeded any expectations that had been placed on them after a historically-bad year.
