The New Orleans Saints made a splash with the signing of Dez Bryant. It seems even Todd Gurley could not help but applaud the move.

Bryant has been a free agent since prior to the 2018 NFL season. Gurley feels he should have been signed a long time ago, according to Cameron DaSilva of The Rams Wire:

“About time. It’s about time somebody picked him up. No reason he shouldn’t have been in the league,” Gurley said Thursday.

Gurley is likely not looking forward to the prospect of having to potentially face an even more star-studded Saints team. However, it is clear he is still happy to see a player of Bryant’s status back in the NFL. That said, there is certainly plenty of truth to Gurley’s comments.

Bryant’s departure from the Dallas Cowboys was one of the biggest headlines of the offseason. However, he added fuel to the fire with multiple jabs on social media directed toward his former organization. This likely could have attributed to his extensive free agent status.

Although he is hardly the playmaker he used to be, Bryant is still more talented than many of the wideouts playing today. The three-time Pro Bowler would have made a welcome addition to this high-powered Saints offense. New Orleans already has a bonafide No. 1 option in Michael Thomas. Bryant would have had a chance to potentially operate as a complementary option for Thomas.

Unfortunately, it seems fans will never get a chance to see how it works out. Reports have since surfaced that Bryant tore his Achilles in practice. The injury undoubtedly deals a crushing blow to the veteran’s comeback as he will miss the rest of the season.
