The health of running back Todd Gurley has been one of the more notable headlines surrounding the Los Angeles Rams this offseason and it appears to be for good reason.

The Rams are wrapping up the final week of organized team activities. While Gurley’s absence was certainly noteworthy, it hardly came as any surprise.

He has spent the offseason nursing a lingering knee injury that plagued him down the final stretch o the 2018 campaign. The Rams have since spent the bulk of their time dispelling any notion of long-term concern.

According to ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry, Gurley will be doing his own individual workouts rather than team workouts:

The Los Angeles Rams have a specific, individualized offseason plan for Todd Gurley. For now, it doesn’t include their star running back participating in team drills at organized team activities.

“That was what we felt like was best for Todd when Todd and I sat down,” Rams coach Sean McVay said Tuesday. “And it’s been really good so far and we feel good about that.”

The approach is certainly understandable considering all the has transpired over the last several months. It is safe to say that the Rams will be taking every precaution they can to ensure that Gurley is 100 percent healthy by the start of the 2019 NFL season.

Los Angeles has been hesitant to reveal all the intimate details regarding his knee injury. Although the three-time Pro Bowler has indicated that he is feeling better than he was during the season, he admitted to still taking things slowly at the start of OTAs.

The update from Gurley has only raised more speculation regarding his long-term health. Considering the lack of details that have been revealed since the injury, it is clear that Los Angeles hopes to keep it that way.

Regardless, they have seemingly taken precautions to ensure the stability of their backfield moving forward. Not only did they managed to re-sign longtime backup Malcolm Brown, but they also invested a third-round pick in running back Darrell Henderson during the 2019 NFL Draft.

Aside from shoring up their backfield depth, the Rams have also indicated that Gurley could see a lighter workload moving forward as they continue to determine the severity of his injury. He has long served as the driving force behind this offense ever since his arrival, however, it is clear that the team would much rather have him healthy for the playoffs.
