The Los Angeles Rams offense has undoubtedly been the biggest surprise of the 2017 NFL season. Leading the offensive surge is running back Todd Gurley — who after a nightmare sophomore campaign — now looks like the most explosive weapon in football.

The young star had perhaps his best performance of the year against a formidable Dallas Cowboys defense after finishing with 215 total yards and a touchdown. Gurley’s historic start to the 2017 NFL season is one that has only been accomplished by Hall of Famers Jim Brown and Emmitt Smith, according to Gil Brandt of NFL.com:

Gurley’s performance so far this year certainly puts him in some elite company. Although his turnaround has surprised even the most optimistic fans, the young workhorse had big expectations of himself prior to the start of the 2017 NFL season.

Gurley even had a keychain that said ‘1,500 rushing and 1,000 receiving’ to ensure the confidence he had both in himself and the offense as a whole. While his goals may still be a bit far-fetched — considering no player has ever recorded more than 1,500 rushing and 900 yards receiving — Gurley is on pace to remain within striking distance.

Los Angeles suddenly looks powerful up front thanks in part to defenses now having to respect the passing game. If the Rams can continue to create space for Gurley, the entire offense will continue to reap the benefits moving forward.
