Todd Gurley put the nail in the coffin when he opted to go down rather than score a touchdown with a minute left in the game against the Green Bay Packers. Although he made a wise decision, it certainly did not do much for his popularity outside of Rams fans.

Gurley caught plenty of flak from fantasy owners and bettors looking for a touchdown. However, he does not care about anything other than sealing the victory, according to Rams:

“Man, forget fantasy and forget Vegas,” Gurley said after the game. “We got the win, so that’s all that matters.”

Los Angeles had just recovered a costly fumble by Ty Montgomery on the kickoff return. It is obvious that the Rams were going to do whatever they could to make sure Aaron Rodgers did not see the field again. Gurley made sure of that by taking a toss to the goal line before slowing down to let defenders tackle him.

It is easy to see why bettors may have been frustrated with Gurley’s decision. His touchdown would have covered the spread on the game. His decision undoubtedly cost people some serious money. However, there is no justification for fantasy owners here. He has been far and away the most valuable commodity in fantasy. Things were no different on Sunday when he rushed for 114 yards while hauling in six receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown. If that was not enough to help secure a potential victory, then it is clear those teams still have much work to do.

Regardless, it is encouraging to see that Gurley is not bothered by all the outside noise. He and the Rams will continue to be under the microscope as they try to maintain their undefeated start to the 2018 NFL season.
