Rams News: Todd Gurley, Andrew Whitworth Among Team Captains For 2017 NFL Season

To be named team captain is undoubtedly the highest honor a player can receive from their fellow teammates. Not only are they usually the best players on the roster, but their work ethic and character off the field are what helps them gain the respect of their peers.

With that said, here are the Los Angeles Rams team captains for the 2017 NFL season, according to Rams Insider Myles Simmons:

The two that immediately stand out on this list are left tackle Andrew Whitworth and linebacker Connor Barwin. It seems Los Angeles got exactly what they were looking for when they added the two veterans this past offseason as far as leadership and experience goes.

Another notable name is cornerback Trumaine Johnson who despite failed negotiations for a long-term contract, has remained a steady presence for this young Rams team. Los Angeles will need the defense to play well in All Pro Aaron Donald’s absence.

Fans may be concerned with not seeing quarterback Jared Goff listed as a team captain. However, it is hard to argue with Whitworth and running back Todd Gurley’s legitimacy as the leaders on offense. Needless to say, this is a much more experienced group than recent years.
