Todd Gurley showed once again why he is the best player at his position with a spectacular performance versus the Denver Broncos. It appears he now has his sights set on LaDainian Tomlinson’s touchdown record.
Gurley has somehow managed to follow up his stellar 2017 NFL season with an even better 2018 season. He issued a warning to Tomlinson that he is coming for the touchdown record, according to Twitter:

Gurley’s comments should come as no surprise. He has never been shy about setting high standards for himself. It seems Tomlinson’s touchdown record is on his list of goals next to rushing and receiving for 1500 yards in a season. While they may have seemed far-fetched at the time, they certainly do not anymore.
Gurley is on pace to potentially mirror both touchdown marks left by Tomlinson. He has amassed a league-high 623 yards rushing, 247 yards receiving and 11 total touchdowns so far this year. He would need 19 more rushing touchdowns and 20 total touchdowns over the final 10 games if he wants to break both records.
The Rams star certainly has a ways to go before Tomlinson’s record becomes attainable. However, it is entirely possible given the high-powered offense he is in. As innovative as head coach Sean McVay is, he has centered his scheme around Gurley’s abilities. Needless to say, it has worked out quite nicely for Los Angeles over the past two seasons.
Unfortunately, their success may be the very reason why Gurley may have difficulty reaching the record. McVay took a cautious approach to the postseason last year by resting all his starters in the season finale. His choice potentially hindered Gurley’s bid for the Most Valuable Player award. However, given their lack of success in the playoffs last year, the Rams could very well take a different approach this time around.
