Los Angeles Rams safety Taylor Rapp was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the New York Giants in Week 6.

The start of the season was a bit rough for Rapp, so it was good to see him get back on track with a dominant performance against the Giants.

Not only did Rapp finish with five total tackles, but he also had three passes defensed and two interceptions. This marked the first two-interception game of Rapp’s career and he was able to return both into Giants territory, setting the Rams offense up with awesome field position.

Given the Rams’ injuries in the secondary, Rapp will have to step up and continue his high level of play moving forward. Many criticized the Rams’ decision to not re-sign John Johnson in the offseason, but the emergence of two young safeties in Rapp and Jordan Fuller allowed them to do that.

The Rams’ win over the Giants improved their record to 5-1, and they should be able to rack up two more wins in the coming weeks when they take on the New York Giants and Houston Texans. Things get much tougher for the Rams after that, but hopefully Rapp and the secondary can continue to build momentum going into the latter half of their season.

Overall in six games this season, Rapp has 41 total tackles, four passes defensed and two interceptions.
