With preseason finally wrapping up, the focus for the Los Angeles Rams has been getting their players as healthy as possible for Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season. One player who has yet to see any real-game action has been receiver Tavon Austin.

Austin entered camp having undergone surgery to repair his left wrist but since then, has been hampered by minor injuries. However, head coach Sean McVay expects him to be back at full health in time for their season opener against the Indianapolis Colts, according to Rams Insider Myles Simmons.

“He’s made huge progress with [head trainer] Reggie [Scott] over the last week where he’s running, reaching some higher speeds on the treadmill and stuff where it’s 100 percent of his weight that he’s supporting. So those have been some good things. And we’re going to have to start brainstorming some ways of how we’re going to utilize Tavon in that game – which will be fun.”

A healthy Austin would give the Rams rejuvenated offense another lethal weapon to work with. The addition of wideouts Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods, and Cooper Kupp provide a nice stable of talent for quarterback Jared Goff to work with.

For Austin, however, it could also mean a dip in targets and touches compared to what he saw last season. With the clock ticking on the speedy slot-man to prove himself, he will have to make the most with whatever comes his way.
