The Los Angeles Rams have made a few big moves this offseason, but perhaps their one weakness remaining is in the secondary.
The Rams lost a key member of their defensive backfield in cornerback Darious Williams, who signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. They will also be losing safety Eric Weddle, who rode off into the sunset and retired for a second time after the Rams’ Super Bowl win.
Even though the Rams do not have a ton of cap space at their disposal, that doesn’t mean they aren’t still exploring every avenue to improve.
Because of that, the Rams have been linked to the best remaining defensive backs available on the free-agent market. The Rams first had reported interest in safety Tyrann Mathieu, and in recent days some steam has picked up regarding their interest in Stephon Gilmore.
It appears that interest was short-lived though as Gilmore has already found a new home, signing with the Indianapolis Colts, per Adam Schefter of ESPN:
Comp update: Colts are giving CB Stephon Gilmore a two-year, 23 million deal including $14 million guaranteed, per source. https://t.co/9Ot1oD0lxt

The Rams already have one star cornerback in Jalen Ramsey, and he has not been shy over the years when it comes to recruiting other top players to L.A. He likely did the same with Gilmore, which led to some disappointment when he chose the Colts:
You know what, my first tweet of the day should be thanking God for waking me up, my bad. Have a blessed day 🙏🏾 https://t.co/8o5LRpEiUW

With Gilmore off the board, perhaps the Rams make a more serious run at Mathieu. There are also some other solid corners available like James Bradbury, although the Rams do have some young players capable of playing the position and will likely address it again in the upcoming draft.
While having two lockdown corners like Ramsey and Gilmore would have made the Rams’ defense awfully good, they still have a ton of talent and will be among the Super Bowl favorites again this season regardless.
