The Los Angeles Rams have managed to capture offseason headlines for the second year in a row with the hiring of the NFL’s youngest head coach in Sean McVay. Although the Rams were expected to meet with several candidates in the coming weeks, the front office was blown away by McVay’s vision for the team and promptly made him their next head coach.
Rams owner Stan Kroenke, along with McVay, released statements on joining forces according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN:
Rams owner Stan Kroenke: “This is an exciting day for the Los Angeles Rams as we welcome Sean McVay as our new head coach. The accomplishments and success that he has rendered in less than a decade in our league are remarkable. I am confident in his vision to make a team a consistent winner and to ultimately bring a Super Bowl title home to Los Angeles.”
Sean McVay: “I am incredibly honored by this opportunity and I want to start by thanking Mr. Kroenke and Kevin Demoff for their faith in me to lead the Los Angeles Rams as head coach. Collectively, we are committed to building a championship caliber team, and I’m excited to start that process and make our fans proud.”
Being a head coach in Los Angeles has proved to be one of the tougher jobs in sports, especially without a furnished product to put on display. However, the team’s brass is clearly more than optimistic that McVay is capable of meeting those standards. Despite his short tenure in the league, McVay has received praise for his work in Washington that includes developing Kirk Cousins and leading this year’s offense to their most prolific outing in franchise history.
Los Angeles will now begin building the rest of their coaching staff that is expected to include a slew of impressive names, including Wade Phillips and Anthony Lynn.
