After a disappointing first season back, the Los Angeles Rams will look to hit the ground running at the beginning of the 2017 NFL regular season. Under the guidance of head coach Sean McVay, the team’s play on the field should look drastically different from the uninspired effort they showed last year.
During the 2016-2017 regular season, the Rams used the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as their home field, with plans to move into a new stadium located in Inglewood. However, according to Rams, development of the stadium has been delayed due to the record-setting rainfall experienced earlier in the year:
“In the best interest of the project, we have decided to move the opening date to summer of 2020. This new target gives us flexibility to accommodate any additional delays that may arise while still delivering an unparalleled experience upon opening. This is a stadium that Angelenos, visitors and world-class athletes will celebrate for years to come, and we are committed to making sure this venue is exceptional from the day it opens.”
This comes as an unexpected letdown as the venue was originally slated for a 2019 opening. The project, a 70,000-seat stadium and 300-acre entertainment district, will be filled with plenty of attractions and serve as a hub for Los Angeles residents. The stadium itself will be home for both the Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, a convenience for fans of both teams.
Due to the delay, the Rams and Chargers will continue to play in The Coliseum and StubHub Center, respectively. While this is an unfortunate occurrence, the teams and their fans should still be excited about the new venue.
