When Darrell Henderson went down to injury, the Los Angeles Rams turned to Sony Michel to lead their backfield and he almost single-handedly changed their offensive identity.

Michel is a much more physical runner than Henderson and head coach Sean McVay tailored his offensive scheme to help him thrive. McVay went to heavier personnel groupings, which allowed the running back to impose his will in the secondary.

While Michel’s role was reduced once Henderson and Cam Akers returned, it should not take away what he was able to do in the second half of the 2021 season. However, it seems like his time with the Rams is coming to an end after the team selected Kyren Williams in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The veteran can certainly provide depth to a running back room and it sounds like it is only a matter of time until he finds a new home as Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports he has interest from a couple of teams:

Both the Dolphins and Saints would make logical landing spots for Michel as they lack the type of running style he possesses. For Miami, they already brought in Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert, while the Saints still have their one-two punch of Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.

There is no question that Michel could compete for a spot on either of those rosters, and it will be interesting to see where he ultimately ends up. For the Rams, it would be sad to see Michel go but the team remains in a great spot with their running backs and the offense as a whole is poised to be an explosive unit once again.
