The Miami Dolphins announced that they have signed former Los Angeles Rams running back Sony Michel to what is reported to be a one-year contract.

After Cam Akers went down with a torn Achilles last offseason, the Rams found themselves needing to find another running back.

Just before the start of the season, the team decided to trade for Michel, sending a sixth-round pick to the New England Patriots in exchange.

While Michel took a backseat to Darrell Henderson in the first half of the season, he really came on in the second half after Henderson went down with an injury.

After a winless month of November, Sean McVay decided to change the Rams’ style of play on offense, going with a more ground-and-pound approach with Michel leading the way.

The Rams won every game they played except one from that point on, with Michel playing a big role in that. Overall in the season, Michel finished with 845 rushing yards and four touchdowns to go along with 128 receiving yards and another touchdown.

In the Rams’ final six games of the season, Michel led them with 606 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns.

With Akers and Henderson back healthy now and the team drafting Kyren Williams in the fifth round though, the Rams are set at running back for the 2022 season, which forced Michel to pursue other opportunities in free agency.

He joins a Dolphins backfield that is very crowded as in addition to Myles Gaskin, they added Michel, Raheem Mostert and Chase Edmonds this offseason.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is known for getting creative in the run game though, so it will be interesting to see how he utilizes Michel and all their other backs.
