Sean McVay had the Los Angeles Rams organization wondering if he would return for another year after such a disappointing 2022 season.
The Rams finished with the worst record since McVay took over as head coach and the team missed the postseason for just the second time. It was the worst follow-up season for a defending Super Bowl champion ever and that had to leave McVay sleepless some nights.
However, McVay decided to return for the 2023 campaign and appears committed to the franchise for the foreseeable future as he works to rebuild the program’s foundation from the ground up. It won’t be an easy challenge, but Los Angeles should feel fortunate to have their head coach back in the fold.
Off the football field, McVay is as dedicated as it comes to studying film and game-planning but his duties will now extend past football as his Veronika announced that the couple is expecting their first child, via her Instagram account:
McVay has been open about his desire to start a family and he’s finally getting his wish as his baby boy is due in the middle of the season. Becoming a first-time parent is an exciting time for anyone, but now he’ll have to juggle preparing for opponents and fatherhood.
With Veronika pregnant for about five months, their child should be arriving sometime early in the season. How McVay handles the extra workload both at the office and at home is anyone’s guess, but he’s a tireless worker who should be able to do both well.
Sean McVay offers thoughts and reactions to 2023 schedule
The Rams are going to look like a much different team in 2023 and McVay is going to have to be the one to figure out how all the new pieces fit alongside their pillars of Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald. By virtue of their poor record in 2022, Los Angeles received an easier schedule this time around but still kick off the year with back-to-back games against division rivals in the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.
While that kind of start would intimidate most people, McVay has never been a person to run away from a challenge. In fact, he expressed his excitement for the opportunity to see what his team is made of so early in the season and emphasized the focus for them is to keep building on each and every day.
