After a successful 2017 NFL season that culminated in an NFC West division title and a playoff berth, the Los Angeles Rams decided to add even more firepower to their team in the offseason. By swinging deals for Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib and Brandin Cooks and signing Ndamukong Suh to a one-year deal, the Rams now have one of the most talented rosters in the league.
In Sean McVay’s first year as the team’s head coach, he transformed what was previously the league’s worst offensive unit into the NFL’s highest scoring one. With a year of experience under his belt, he should be poised to push the Rams to newer heights.
However, according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, McVay called for the Rams to come into the new season with a clean slate:
What we did last year, really, you have to wipe the slate clean,” McVay said. “We have to earn it every single day. There’s a confidence that exists from having some previous experience where you were able to obtain a little bit of success. But this league is too competitive; the players are too good. You’ll get humbled very quickly if you kind of just rest on your laurels.”
This approach from McVay makes sense given all the hype surrounding the team after the front office managed to add so much talent in one offseason. With several new players entering the fold, McVay and the rest of the coaching staff will be busy trying to put their players in the best possible positions to succeed.
Still, it is hard for fans not to be excited because the Rams should legitimately be able to contend for a Super Bowl. The 2018 NFL season begins in a couple of months and it will be interesting to see how these new-look Rams perform.
