The NFC Divisional matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys will feature two of the best running backs in the NFL in Todd Gurley and Ezekiel Elliott.

Head coach Sean McVay has helped Gurley become one of the most dynamic players in the league by finding ways to utilize his full potential. It appears he has noticed head coach Jason Garrett do the same with Elliott during the 2018 NFL season.

Workhorse backs of their caliber are certainly hard to come by the NFL. McVay knows full well that both Gurley and Elliott fit the same mold as an every-down player.

According to Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire,McVay feels there are a number of similarities between both of these players:

“When you look at Zeke, I think he’s similar to Todd – one of the most complete backs in the league, extremely productive,” McVay said on a conference call Sunday. “I think he’s got the ability to go through you or go around you with speed. He’s gotten a lot more involved in the pass game this year. I think he’s truly a complete back and you could see that a lot of what they do is predicated on just him getting a bunch of touches.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to McVay’s comments. Gurley and Elliott are widely considered two of the league’s premier workhorse backs thanks to their versatile skill sets.

Not only are they efficient runners, but they are also capable of catching balls out of the backfield and helping with pass protection. Both teams will undoubtedly be focused on finding ways to contain the other.

It is easy to see why there is plenty of hype surrounding the matchup between Gurley and Elliott. Their stat lines could very well determine which team advances to the NFC Championship.
