The Los Angeles Rams are fairly set at most positions as they prepare for the upcoming 2022 season.
However, one area to watch for during training camp will be the offensive line– specifically right guard. The Rams lost stalwart left tackle Andrew Whitworth to retirement, but have had Joe Noteboom developing behind the scenes to take his place. However, Austin Corbett’s departure leaves a hole at right guard that needs to be filled.
Los Angeles will be looking at Coleman Shelton or Logan Bruss to fill the void but head coach Sean McVay says it will take a while to decide who ultimately will get the nod, via Cameron DaSilva of USA Today:
“Oh, well, he’s got to continue to progress,” McVay said of Bruss on Wednesday. “Right now, there’s a lot of guys that are doing some really good things. I’ve talked about Coleman Shelton who’s really played at a high level. I’ve been really encouraged with Logan, but we got a long way to go until we have to make those types of decisions.”
Shelton re-signed with the Rams on a two-year deal and provides versatility on the interior of the line, where he can play either guard spot or center. Meanwhile, the Rams took Bruss with the 104th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, which most took as a sign that he would be the starter.
Odds are that Bruss eventually wins out in training camp, but McVay and his staff will continue to evaluate all the way until the season opener. The offensive line was a strength for the Rams last year and even though there’s some uncertainty they still project to be a solid unit.
