The Los Angeles Rams had plenty of questions heading into the offseason after a successful 2017 NFL campaign. The Rams, who were the worst offensive team in the 2016 NFL season, came out and blitzed the league under first-year head coach Sean McVay, eventually earning themselves the NFC West division title.

While the offense was the talk of their season, the defense also remained steady under renowned defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips. With a front seven spearheaded by Aaron Donald and an opportunistic secondary, Los Angeles established themselves as one of the most balanced and talented rosters in the league.

However, that did not stop general manager Les Snead from adding to the roster as he struck deals to land both Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, creating what is arguably the best secondary in the league. According to Vincent Bonsignore of Los Angeles Daily News, McVay has high hopes for his new cornerbacks:

Although Peters and Talib’s arrival forced Trumaine Johnson out, this is still a major win for a Rams team who needed ballhawks outside of the lines. Under Phillips, both Pro Bowl defensive backs should combine to create several turnovers and plays each game for Los Angeles.

Los Angeles’ revamped secondary coupled with an offense led by Jared Goff and Todd Gurley should give fans hope that the roster can legitimately compete for a Super Bowl championship. As free agency and the 2018 NFL Draft come up, it will be interesting to see who the Rams’ front office can add to ensure the team’s competing late into January and February.
