The Los Angeles Rams offensive line should bounce back in 2023 after it was decimated by injuries during the 2022 season.

The injuries started before the season even began as the Rams lost Logan Bruss to a torn ACL in training camp. Bruss would miss the entirety of his rookie season and from there, things spiraled way out of Los Angeles’ control.

However, the offseason has been a productive one so far for Bruss, who has been participating in OTAs. Sean McVay said Bruss has looked good and is encouraged by what he’s been able to do.

“Well, he’s done a good job physically getting himself ready to go. I think early on in camp, never really got a chance to get his feet wet appropriately. Had some good things that occurred in the preseason games and then he ends up hurting his knee. So that rehab process took a while, but physically he looks good. There were some good things that he did out there yesterday that was encouraging. A little sore, which we kind of expected and so we were smart with him.

“So I think the big thing for him is just keep taking steps. Don’t get discouraged in the least bit if you have to be able to take a day and let’s control the things that we can control. I like where he’s at. I think our strength staff and really Reggie (Scott) and his group have done a good job of physically getting him ready to go and then we’re looking forward to continuing to evaluate him and him go cut it loose and have fun.”

The starting right guard spot is up in the air right now, with the most likely options being Bruss and Coleman Shelton. Shelton was able to slide along the interior between guard and center, which might give him a leg up in the competition, though Bruss’ draft pedigree might earn more more consideration from McVay and the coaching staff.

Ultimately, it’s going to come down to whoever has the better training camp and preseason showing. Bruss, a former third-round pick, has a ways to go to prove he’s fully healthy and ready to start but the potential is definitely there.

Matthew Stafford supports offensive lineman-heavy draft

Los Angeles did well to address their offensive line in the 2023 NFL Draft as they took two more lineman. Count Matthew Stafford as someone in the organization who supported the picks as he would surely love more help up front against opposing pass rushes.
