At 9-3, the Los Angeles Rams currently sit in first place in the NFC West and look like a serious playoff contender. The Rams have built one of the most complete teams in the NFL and the results have been nothing short of amazing given their lack of success in recent years.
Second-year quarterback Jared Goff has been on the league’s most improved players during the 2017 NFL season and has quickly earned the confidence of his team. Much of his success has to do with Los Angeles hiring Sean McVay, a young but intelligent head coach with a knack for offensive schemes and playcalling.
According to Tim Keown of ESPN, McVay had high praise for Goff:
I was really impressed with his ability to take full accountability for what had happened,” McVay says. “He could have had a tendency to blame everyone else for things that happened, but he didn’t do any of that. I thought, ‘This guy’s wired the right way.'”
McVay has brought a new culture of accountability to the Rams and it has turned around the franchise’s long-term outlook. Goff, who was labeled a bust after his disappointing 2016 NFL season, is beginning to look like the franchise quarterback Los Angeles hoped for when they selected him first overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Goff has an opportunity to further establish himself as one of the NFL’s rising stars when he and the team take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14. The Eagles, led by Carson Wentz, have emerged as a Super Bowl contender and will surely test Los Angeles on every side of the ball.
