Rams News: Sean McVay Praises Offense, Defense & Special Teams For Complete Performance Against Falcons

After a three-game skid, the Los Angeles Rams finally got right as they demolished the Atlanta Falcons on the road in Week 7, 37-10.

For the first time in weeks, the Rams played about as complete of a game as they could have, outclassing the Falcons in every phase of the game. The offense finally found a groove and the defense made life difficult for Matt Ryan all afternoon.

Rams head coach Sean McVay had nothing but good things to say about his team for how they were able to bounce back, via the Rams official Twitter:

“That’s a tough football team that we went against today and I thought really offense, defense special teams…like I said, good team, complete win. It was good to be able to see some of our new contributions. You felt Jalen Ramsey’s presence today. Did an excellent job and he’s a physical, complete player. You see him coming up on the toss crack where he ends up forcing the fumble that we almost got back on.”

McVay was not only impressed with Jalen Ramsey‘s performance in his team debut, but he was happy with how the defense performed as a whole after struggling the last few weeks:

“But I thought the defense applied pressure all day. Dante Fowler, what else can you say about him? To come away with three sacks. Aaron [Donald] continues to make his presence felt. Love the leadership provided by Eric Weddle on the backend.”

To expand on how complete of a performance it was for the Rams, McVay also had some praise for the offense and special teams:

“And then offensively I thought after we had some opportunities early on…I love the way that Jared Goff just stayed the course, ended up making some plays. Came back to Gerald Everett on a very similar play to start the second half, ended up leading to a big play with a touchdown drive. Todd [Gurley] and Darrell [Henderson] both had tough, hard-earned runs. David Edwards making his first start was impressive.

And then special teams, again you talk about the mental toughness. But for Greg [Zuerlein] to miss that first kick and then to come back and hit it from 50-plus, I think is a demonstration of his mental toughness and then our confidence in him to come back to him in that situation and they ended up with a touchdown for Darious [Williams]. It was a good, complete win today and we’re pleased with it.”

There was plenty of positives to take away from the game as Jared Goff finally had himself a day, throwing for 268 yards, two touchdowns and one score on the ground. Dante Fowler Jr. also had himself a solid outing as he finished with three sacks and pressured Ryan on several dropbacks.

Los Angeles and Wade Phillips also had to be impressed with Ramsey as he provided excellent man coverage all afternoon, particularly on superstar receiver Julio Jones.

The Falcons were the first team in what appears to be a favorable upcoming schedule for the Rams. Los Angeles heads to London in Week 8 to face off against a hapless Cincinnati Bengals squad.
