The Los Angeles Rams made the first big splash of the NFL offseason when they traded four draft picks, including No. 29 overall this year, to the Kansas City Chiefs for two-time All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie.

After completing the trade, the Rams then signed McDuffie to a record-breaking contract extension, locking in their new star cornerback to a long-term deal.

It’s no secret that the Rams’ outside cornerbacks struggled last season, so they wasted no time addressing their biggest need this offseason. And one person who is happy about it is head coach Sean McVay, as Jay Glazer reported on the Dan Patrick Show:

“I was actually with Sean McVay this weekend and he was telling me about it and he was like over the moon. Like over the moon about this. They traded away a lot for him, but Sean is always the type of guy that’s like I’m going for it now. And I think more and more, and I told him this, surprisingly more people don’t do what he does. Because you know what you’re getting with a Trent McDuffie. With these draft picks now, you hear more and more complains about people not going to the combine, coaches are like we don’t really know what we’re getting with these guys anymore. Your interview you can’t pry, you get such a short period… I think if you have a proven commodity in the NFL, I would trade my picks also, and I’m surprised more teams don’t do it because the Rams are in it every single year and it’s a copycat league and nobody really does it… But Sean, he was so over the moon for this. He was willing to go all-in for this.”

AS Glazer mentioned, McVay and the Rams have never been afraid to trade draft capital for proven stars, and this is just the latest example.

While trading a first-round pick isn’t easy, the Rams still have an even better pick at No. 13 overall to use in this year’s draft, making it a no-brainer deal to bring in a player of McDuffie’s caliber.

The Rams also weren’t done there as they signed McDuffie’s former Chiefs teammate Jaylen Watson to a three-year contract in free agency, giving them one of the better cornerback duos in the league.

Kam Curl excited about Rams’ secondary additions

Another signing the Rams made was bringing back safety Kam Curl, and he is also excited about the team’s new additions.

“I’ll see them in the building real soon, but just seeing those moves that the Rams made, it just got me excited to go play with those guys, those big playmakers. And we’re just trying to have the No. 1 defense this season and I feel like with the guys we’ve got in the room now and on the defensive side of the ball, we’ve got a good chance to do that.”
