The Los Angeles Rams offensive line was an absolute disaster pretty much throughout the entire 2016 NFL season. Perhaps even more concerning was the mental and physical toll it took on their young guns in quarterback Jared Goff and running back Todd Gurley.

One of the biggest disappointments on the line was the lackluster play of left tackle Greg Robinson. There was speculation the Rams would part ways with the former second overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. However, according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, new head coach Sean McVay is impressed with Robinson’s physical skill set:

“When you see some of the things he’s able to do, you see the athleticism in space when he’s pulling around and using some of those perimeter schemes that they did offensively last year,” McVay said during a news conference from the team facility, which followed a meet-and-greet with his new assistant coaches. “He’s a guy that we’re excited to get around. That’s why it’s frustrating that we have to wait so long to get these guys in the building, see them on the grass.”

The news is encouraging considering Robinson has committed more holding penalties than any other lineman in the league the past two years combined. Luckily, McVay’s optimism for the struggling tackle is shared with new offensive line coach Aaron Kromer.

One would be hard-pressed to find many players who are 6′ 5″ and 330 pounds and capable of doing back-flips and throwing a football over 70 yards.  Unfortunately, that freakish athleticism has yet to translate at the professional level.
