Prior to the 2017 NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams had been among the teams with the longest playoff drought. As a result, they have not had the fortune of having players with a championship pedigree.
Although some may find that concerning come postseason, head coach Sean McVay is seemingly not worried about it. During his press conference, McVay said the Rams’ confidence will help make up for their lack of playoff experience:
“I don’t think it’s a concern,” McVay said. “I do think that we have a confident group, I think we’ve got a mature group for a young football team and then those guys in that locker room, the guys that have been in playoff atmospheres, we’ve got coaches that have been there as well, can provide that leadership in terms of what to expect.
McVay’s optimism should certainly come as no surprise. Los Angeles has managed to defy the odds all year by transforming into the highest-scoring offense in the league.
Although they may have not enjoyed much success in the past, the Rams have dealt with their fair share of heartbreak and frustration. Furthermore, it is likely McVay will not let the fact that his little playoff experience will deter him from doing what he has been all season long. The rookie head coach went to the postseason just twice with the Washington Redskins, one of which where he was the offensive coordinator in 2015.
