The offense of the Los Angeles Rams got back on track in their 26-20 win over the New Orleans Saints. Aside from yet another strong defensive outing, the offense saw a heavy dosage of second-year quarterback Jared Goff.
The former No. 1 overall pick had a field day going 28-of-43 for 354 yards and two touchdowns. According to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, head coach Sean McVay feels the team is at that point where they can trust Goff to carry the offense when they need him to:
“We felt like going into the game as a staff, and really as a team, that we had to keep our foot on the gas the whole game and really play to win that game, not being afraid to lose it,” McVay said. “And when you have the confidence and trust in your quarterback like we do, you feel like you can put it in his hands to be able to make good decisions in those situations.”
It also helped that New Orleans was without two of their top defensive backs going into the matchup. Needless to say, Goff took advantage all afternoon with one of his only blemishes coming on a circus interception that was caused by wide receiver Sammy Watkins.
However, as Goff’s usage continues to increase, Gurley’s workload has taken a hit as of late. Fortunately, that could serve the Rams well down the road when they get ready for playoffs.
