The Los Angeles Rams suffered a huge blow to their receiving corps after Cooper Kupp was ruled out for the rest of the 2018 NFL season with a torn ACL. Fortunately, head coach Sean McVay has the utmost confidence in Josh Reynolds.

The loss of Kupp clearly leaves a void in the passing game. However, McVay feels Reynolds is more than capable of serving as a viable option, according to Cameron DaSilva of The Rams Wire:

“Fortunately, we’ve got guys that are ready to step up. Josh Reynolds has definitely demonstrated that he’s more than capable – he is a starting-caliber player, and that’s what we’ll do moving forward,” he added. “Josh Reynolds has played a lot of quality football for us. He’ll step into a larger role.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to McVay’s comments. Kupp had clearly established himself as Jared Goff’s favorite target. Fortunately, the second-year wideout has shown flashes of promise since coming to Los Angeles.

Reynolds filled in for an injured Kupp earlier in the season. He enjoyed a breakout performance versus the Green Bay Packers after hauling in three receptions for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Although it is a stretch to assume he will put up the same numbers as Kupp, he should prove to be a solid replacement.

Kupp did most of his damage working out of the slot in the Rams’ high-powered offense. That said, it is safe to assume that Robert Woods will move inside given his versatile skill set. This will allow the Rams to utilize Reynolds’ playmaking ability on the outside. He will undoubtedly get plenty of opportunities with opposing defenses likely keying on the other two star wideouts.
