Sean McVay had his work cut out for him when he became head coach of the Los Angeles Rams prior to the 2017 NFL season. Aside from his prodigious offensive mind, McVay’s infectious charisma has already helped usher in a new era of Rams football in Los Angeles.

McVay’s character was on full display following their 27-20 defeat at the hands of the Washington Redskins. While there was plenty that went wrong for the Rams, the first-year head coach still blames himself and his playcalling after they fell behind early in Week 2, according to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez:

“So you’ve got 10 plays,” McVay said. “And I thought then that I let those circumstances affect the way that you go about your normal rhythm, as opposed to just staying one play at a time, like you talk about, to try to keep your run-pass balance, knowing that you still have a whole game to get back in it.”

The Rams offense struggled mightily early on before finally mustering up 10 points before the half. He even managed to put together some solid stat lines from quarterback Jared Goff and running back Todd Gurley. However, they still came up short, and now sit at 1-1.

McVay’s comments are just the latest example of what he has been preaching since he arrived — accountability. Hopefully, McVay holding himself accountable will continue to encourage his players to do the same
