The Los Angeles Rams’ wide receiving corps is gonna look a little different in 2025 with Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson playing for other teams in the division.

The Rams signed Davante Adams to help replace that production, and they also brought back Tutu Atwell on a one-year, fully guaranteed deal.

Atwell was drafted in the second round by the Rams out of Louisville in 2021, but so far he has not been able to live up to the hype. In four seasons with the team, Atwell has 99 receptions for 1,343 yards and four touchdowns.

He is coming off his best season, however, hauling in 42 receptions for 562 yards in 2024. The Rams are hoping Atwell will be able to build off that now that he is back for another year and in an interview with Rams broadcaster J.B. Long, head coach Sean McVay named the speedy receiver as a player he expects to ascend in 2025:

“Obviously, Davante was a real bright spot. Puka was (too). I think Tutu Atwell’s ready to really ascend, take the next steps. Matthew was outstanding. Those are kind of the normal cast of characters. It’s really great to get Coleman Shelton back. His command, his ability to elevate and uplift those around him. I think that’s been really special.”

Part of the reason Atwell hasn’t been able to break out yet is back he hasn’t gotten many opportunities, which McVay has taken ownership of.

His speed adds a different element to the Rams offense, so it will be interesting to see what McVay does to get Atwell more involved in 2025. With Adams, Atwell and Puka Nacua, the Rams have a trio that complements each other well and should give Matthew Stafford plenty of options to throw to.

Sean McVay explains why Rams re-signed Tutu Atwell

The Rams wasted no time re-signed Tutu Atwell at the start of the offseason and Sean McVay explained why that was a priority for the organization.

“I think when you look at his body of work, when he’s been able to play – especially in some of the times that he was playing when Cooper was on IR – there was a lot of production,” McVay said.

“And if you project that over the course of 17 games, you just watch what he was able to do. He’s matured as a young man. I love the person, getting to know him, and I think that he’s only getting better. He’s 24 years old. I thought he really improved his route detail. For a smaller guy, he’s got a good catch radius.”
