The Los Angeles Rams offense was one of the best in the league in the 2018 NFL season, but when talking about it, most of the credit goes to Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and their dynamic wide receiving corp.

What doesn’t get talked about much is the production they got from their tight ends, Gerald Everett and Tyler Higbee, both of which were players that had really productive seasons.

Everett was a second round pick of the Rams in the 2017 NFL Draft out of South Alabama and in his second season with the team, he caught 33 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns.

When discussing Everett’s seasons, Rams head coach Sean McVay was very happy with the leaps he made from Year 1 to Year 2 in all facets of the game, via Myles Simmons of TheRams.com:

“Really, we talked about it a little bit last year — Gerald was doing an outstanding job in the offseason program and in training camp. And then he had a shoulder injury that set him back and he missed some time,” McVay said “But he was doing a lot of those things that I think we saw as the season progressed. But his opportunities when he’s making plays like that — he provides a skillset that’s hard because he can do some different things specific to lining up all over the formation.”

“But then I thought you saw him really compete well in the run game — whether it be at the point of attack or when he’s cutting somebody off on the backside,” McVay continued. “He just matured as a player. But his skill set, you see why we drafted him as high as we did because of some of the things he can do when you see the plays he’s making against Kansas City, or even his rookie year he did some stuff when you cut up some of his best plays, you say, ‘This guy’s got some special ability.’”

The Rams return all of their offensive skilled position players in 2019, including both Everett and Higbee so they are expected to again be one of the best offenses in football.

In Year 3, Everett could be a popular pick to be a breakout tight end and really establish himself as one of the best in the league.
