The Los Angeles Rams are set to host the Dallas Cowboys following the latter’s victory over the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card round.
It is no secret the Cowboys managed to catch fire down the final stretch of the 2018 NFL season. Their momentum has now carried over into the playoffs following a clutch win over the Seahawks.
It appears head coach Sean McVay knows the Rams will have their hands full in the Divisional round.
According to Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire, McVay is impressed with what he has seen from the Cowboys this season:
“When you put the tape on, you see really impressive – in all three phases, I think they’re very well coached,” McVay said. “They’ve got a lot of team speed. They’re physical on both fronts. Coach (Jason) Garrett does an excellent job. These guys have been playing really good football throughout the year. I think they’re battle-tested and it’s going to be a really tough challenge for us.”
There is certainly plenty of truth to McVay’s comments. Despite their shortcomings under center, they have made up for it with a physical run game that is backed by a formidable defense on the other side of the ball.
McVay’s biggest concern will be trying to find a way to exploit a Cowboys defense that has already shut down some of the NFL’s most high-powered offenses. Not only do they boast one of the more elite front-sevens in the league, but they have also managed to tighten things up over the top in the secondary.
McVay also expressed his concern for trying to contain Ezekiel Elliott, who managed to secure his second rushing title in three seasons. Head coach Jason Garrett’s decision to rest Elliott in the season finale did wonders for him in the Wild Card round after he finished with 169 yards and a touchdown on 30 touches.
