The Los Angeles Rams have had one of the best offenses in the NFL for the past two seasons. On the other side of the ball, the team is no push-over either.
With players like Aaron Donald, Aqib Talib, Dante Fowler, John Johnson III, Marcus Peters and newest editions Clay Matthews and Eric Weddle, the Rams are hoping to improve upon that defense.
An additional new asset came during the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. With the 79th pick, the Rams selected Michigan cornerback David Long.
Long already is showing signs of a veteran, as he discussed his ambitions to learn from Rams veterans like Peters and Talib, via Clarence Dennis of TheRams.com:
“[There’s] a lot of experience to be able to pick up from those guys and just do whatever they’ve been doing to stay in the league,” Long said. “A lot of those guys have successful careers, Aqib Talib has played a really long time, lengthy career, so he knows what it takes. And Marcus Peters and [CB Nickell Robey-Coleman], those guys have made plays at that level.”
Talib is entering his 11th year in the NFL and second with the Rams. He grabbed one interception during his eight games last season. Long also had one interception playing at Michigan this past season.
Long was in his junior season at Michigan but already shows an eagerness to perform at a high level and learn more. This level of maturity will hopefully translate to a level head on the field. He finished his college season as a part of the First Team All-Big-10.
With Talib and Peters both being in the last year of their respective contracts, Long will provide insurance should they decide to leave in a year.
