The Los Angeles Rams offensive line has struggled this season, which has led to the inability to run the football in addition to not being able to call passing plays that take time to develop.
Left tackle Greg Robinson is one of the members of the offensive line unit that has struggled in particular, and because of that he has been inactive for two games this season as an opportunity to take a break and regroup.
Because of that, players have been moved around and positions have not stayed consistent throughout the course of the season.
Rams interim head coach John Fassel recently said he is not yet sure what he plans to do with Robinson this upcoming week in the team’s last game of the season, meaning normal starting right tackle Rodger Saffold not knowing if he will be playing right or left tackle against the Arizona Cardinals.
Saffold recently commented on the difficulties of moving positions, via Myles Simmons of TheRams.com:
“It’s basically like telling you to go from being left handed to just, hey, just start being right handed — which is not the easiest,” Saffold said. “Makes this last week pretty eventful. I already watched a lot of film, so I’m on the right track to get it done.”
Regardless of what position he plays, Saffold said the offensive line unit would like to finish the season strong by protecting quarterback Jared Goff and opening up holes for running back Todd Gurley Sunday:
“That’s definitely the goal, but in order to run the ball, it’s going to take more than the offensive line,” Saffold said. “In order to protect the quarterback, it’s going to take more than the offensive line. Everybody has to do their job and we need to be consistent at doing their jobs. So, we’ll just see how it goes.”
With the Rams currently at 4-11 a win in Week 17 would just serve the purpose of going into the offseason on a high note instead of closing out the season by losing seven straight games.
