The Los Angeles Rams received some positive injury news this week as Sebastian Joseph-Day, Darrell Henderson Jr. and Robert Rochell are all on track to play in Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bengals also appear to be getting a key contributor back in C.J. Uzomah. The tight end sprained the MCL in his left knee in the team’s AFC Championship Game win against the Kansas City Chiefs and was carted to the locker room.
While an injury of this nature can typically sideline a player for multiple weeks, Uzomah is planning to fight through the pain and suit up with his teammates on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.
Robert Woods, who is recovering from a serious knee injury himself, found inspiration from Uzomah’s desire to play but noted he is going to take his time getting back on the field, via ESPN’s Nick Wagoner:
“I saw the Bengals tight end [C.J. Uzomah] throw his brace off,” Woods said. “It kind of inspired me. But hoping for sure for next season. I should be good by minicamp for sure, but I just want to be able to take my time.”
Woods appeared in nine games before sustaining a season-ending ACL injury in Week 9, catching 45 of his 69 targets for 556 yards and four touchdowns. He expects to be fully recovered by minicamp, which is typically held in late July.
Woods’ contributions to the Rams go beyond the stat sheet as he is one of the team’s most respected leaders. That was evident when cameras caught Woods and Cooper Kupp sharing a powerful moment following L.A.’s victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.
Matthew Stafford also spoke of Woods’ impact on the Rams during his Super Bowl media appearance, praising the nine-year wide receiver for his work ethic, attention to detail and the passion he brings to the field.
