The Los Angeles Rams revamped their wide receiving corps by picking up a few promising players in free agency and the 2017 NFL Draft. The addition of Cooper Kupp, Josh Reynolds, and Robert Woods brings plenty of competition to this group.
Woods, in particular, has made it abundantly clear that he plans on shooting for the No. 1 spot on the depth chart according to Gary Klein of Los Angeles Times:
“I feel like I definitely am a No. 1,” he said in March following his signing with Los Angeles.
He reiterated that statement during the first week of the team’s organized team activities:
“I always come in attacking the season trying to be the No. 1 receiver,” he said.
Woods’ determination to be the primary receiver should come as no surprise when one considers the homecoming he is set to enjoy in his return to the Los Angeles Coliseum. However, despite the All-American career he produced as a former USC Trojan, Woods has had some trouble putting up the kind of numbers No. 1 receivers usually produce during his tenure with the Buffalo Bills.
His best season came in the 2014 NFL season when he recorded 65 receptions for 699 yards and five touchdowns. Since then, he has struggled to find the end zone these past two years after being hindered with minor injuries. Woods will have some stiff competition in this open race for the top spot on the chart.
Kupp has impressed so far in OTAs while Tavon Austin is seemingly running out of time to show he is worth the lucrative contract he signed last season.
