The Los Angeles Rams are projected to come out with a number of new looks to the team for the 2017 NFL season. Aside from the coaching staff and uniforms, the team’s player personnel will also undergo a few changes.

Los Angeles plans to move Greg Robinson to right tackle have subsequently forced Rob Havenstein to move down to right guard. According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, general manager Les Snead is optimistic Havenstein can make the transition:

“He’s a very, very, very smart guy,” Snead said. “Being inside, you have to be mentally agile in there, a lot more than you have to be at tackle. Things happen quicker, and there’s more options of who you block. Most of the time at tackle, it’s a very limited number of people based on what changes in a defense.”

The changes to the line were triggered by the signing of three-time Pro Bowl tackle Andrew Whitworth to help fortify the left side for Jared Goff. Although the team’s former second overall pick in Robinson has not quite panned out, head coach Sean McVay believes there is still a place for him along the line.

There is still one glaring opening at the center position. After the Rams were foiled in their attempts to sign Ryan Groy, there has been speculation that they might try to acquire one through the 2017 NFL Draft. However, Snead may have hinted towards looking for a veteran center instead.

With Goff struggling tremendously while under constant pressure last season, it makes sense that his protection has become a top priority. Not to mention a fortified line will also help relieve the pressure off Todd Gurley who also had a down sophomore season.
