One of the more controversial topics in NFL circles today has been the necessity of preseason games. A number of important players get seriously injured every year and teams hopes get dashed before the games even matter. The Los Angeles Rams thankfully did not experience something awful, but they and rookie quarterback Jared Goff did have a little scare.

During the Rams game against the Denver Broncos, Goff took a hit from Broncos defender Vontarrius Dora. According to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, Goff suffered a bruised tailbone from the hit:

Because there is no injury report required for the preseason, Goff’s status for Thursday’s preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings is still unknown at this time. Head coach Jeff Fisher did note that Goff did participate in practice, but refused to go into specifics about the injury.

If there is any kind of setback for Goff, the timing couldn’t be worse for the top overall pick. He already seemed to be losing steam in the ongoing quarterback competition with Case Keenum as it looks like the veteran will begin the season as the starter under center.

It’s likely that this injury is nothing serious and Goff won’t miss any time. Hopefully for Goff’s sake that is the case and he can stay on track as the regular season is set to begin soon.
