The Los Angeles Rams struck gold in the 2023 NFL Draft when they selected BYU wide receiver Puka Nacua in the fifth round.
Nacua slipped in the draft because of injury concerns and lack of top-end speed, but the Rams clearly knew what kind of player he could develop into because of his collegiate tape. A physical player, Nacua invites contact but perhaps his most attractive traits are his ability to come down with contested catches and his overall competitive nature on the field.
The wideout was making waves in training camp and quickly earned the trust of head coach Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford as he got reps in with the starters. Cooper Kupp was forced to miss the first four games of the 2023 season after suffering a hamstring injury, paving the way for Nacua to show what he could do and cement himself as a primary read in the passing game.
During the offseason, Nacua will be giving back to his communities as he announced he’ll be hosting two football camps:
The first camp takes place on May 18th at Simi Valley High School and is open to boys and girls in grades one through eight. The event will go from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. PT and will cost $199 for anyone looking to participate.
The second camp is scheduled for July 16 at Orem High School where Nacua attended. The setup is similar to the first camp, though it’s slightly cheaper to register at $175.
Attendees will have the chance to learn directly from Nacua and other coaches and will leave the event with several goodies including autographed souvenirs from Nacua.
It’s good to see Nacua getting involved both back home and in Los Angeles and it’s a great opportunity for young players to learn from a rising star in the NFL. Knowing Nacua’s cheerful and fun demeanor, anyone who is fortunate enough to go is in store for an exciting day they’ll never forget.
Puka Nacua reveals he lost 10 pounds so far this offseason
Although the Rams were still a ways away from training camp, the players including Puka Nacua have been hard at work in the gym and on the field doing drill work. Heading into his second year in the league, Nacua decided to slim down and he revealed that he’s already lost 10 pounds.
