Rams News: Nickell Robey-Coleman Relishing Chance To Play Under The Radar

Among the major moves that the Los Angeles Rams made this offseason was the acquisition of two All-Pro talents at the cornerback position in Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters. This has immediately placed them in the spot as being penciled in as the two starters for the 2018 campaign.

However, it has taken much of the spotlight of attention off veteran cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman, who elected to re-sign with the team over the offseason on a three-year, $15 million. Despite that being the case, Robey-Coleman has voiced that he enjoys being able to fly under the radar on the roster next season, according to Kristen Lago of TheRams.com:

“That’s how I like it,” cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman said after OTA No. 3. “That’s been my thing since I’ve been in the league. I’ve always had some big names around me, so it’s allowed me to be myself even more.

In his first campaign with the Rams, Robey-Coleman excelled in more a secondary role at the position lining up in the slot, which is a spot that he has played primarily at throughout his career. He was quite effective in that spot arguably his best season recording a career-high 49 tackles with a pair of interceptions along with a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

He will continue to play in that role behind Talib and Peters next season in what could arguably be one of the league’s deepest secondaries that also features former Green Bay Packer Pro Bowler Sam Shields in the mix. The team also has a rising pair of safeties behind them Lamarcus Joyner and John Johnson.

All of this could shape up to another highly effective campaign for the 26-year-old playing primarily in the slot for what could be a vaunted secondary that could anchor what may become one of the league’s top defenses.
